Gloria, Chiu Bill to Demilitarize State and Local Law Enforcement Clears First Major Hurdle, Advances in the Assembly

SACRAMENTO, CA – Legislation by California State Assemblymembers Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) and David Chiu (D-San Francisco) that would better regulate law enforcement’s purchase and acquisition of military-grade equipment earned the approval of the Assembly’s Local Government Committee with a vote of six to three and will now advance to the Assembly’s Public Safety Committee.

Cities, School Districts, and Other Public Entities Would Be Eligible for Unspent MHSA Funds Under New Bill by Assemblymember Gloria

SACRAMENTO, CA – With approximately $2.5 billion dollars in Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funding unspent in county coffers, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) unveiled state legislation today that would force county governments to spend those dollars or have them re-allocated to other public entities.

Gloria Honored by Statewide Youth Non-Profit for Efforts and Advocacy to Increase State Funding for Homeless Youth Services

SACRAMENTO, CA – As part of the California Coalition for Youth’s 2018 Youth Empowerment Summit, which convenes hundreds of youth and youth advocates for a two-day conference focused on strategies to improve the lives of disconnected; runaway; and homeless youth, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) will  receive the Coalition’s Mark Pearlman Award for his efforts and advocacy on behalf of homeless youth – specifically, his work last year to significantly increase the State’s investment in homeless youth services.

Legislation to Increase Low and Middle Income Housing Production Near Public Transit Receives Green Light from Key Assembly Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA – As California continues to battle a housing affordability crisis, legislation authored by California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) that would increase housing production in transit priority areas received unanimous, bipartisan approval today by the Assembly’s Housing and Community Development Committee. AB 2372, known as California’s Sustainable and Affordable (CASA) Housing Act, now advances to the Assembly’s Local Government Committee.

Gloria Bill to Establish the Right of Foster Youth to Access Gender Affirming Healthcare Services Approved by Human Services Committee

SACRAMENTO, CA – First-of-its-kind legislation authored by California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) that would codify the right of transgender and gender non-conforming youth in California’s foster care system to access healthcare services consistent with their gender identity received its first major approval today. AB 2119 passed the Assembly’s Human Services Committee by a vote of five to one and will now advance to the Assembly’s Appropriations Committee.
