(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) wants Californians to know there are new medications that can substantially slow the spread of HIV. About 220,000 Californians are at high-risk for HIV exposure. “New antiretroviral medications, such as PrEP and PEP, have been shown to be safe and effective in reducing the risk of acquiring HIV,” Assemblymember Gloria says. He’s authored Assembly Concurrent Resolution 258 to establish Aug. 16, 2018 as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis—or PrEP and PEP—Awareness Day in California.
