Gloria Re-Appointed Majority Whip of the California State Assembly
Speaker Rendon Re-Appoints Gloria to Key Leadership Post, Positions Gloria to Continue Advancing Progressive Policy & Promote Needs for San Diego
SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) was officially re-appointed as Majority Whip of the California State Assembly – one of the top leadership positions in the Assembly. Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) announced the Assembly leadership appointments and new committee assignments earlier today.
“Last year, I was proud to be part of the team that advanced a bold, progressive agenda for California. From housing affordability to climate change to expanding access to healthcare, we put forward real solutions to help everyday Californians,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “This upcoming legislative session will be historic. We have supermajorities in both houses and a new Governor. We have a tremendous opportunity to advance more progressive policy and address the critical issues in our communities. I look forward to being part of the leadership team to make that happen.”
As Majority Whip, Assemblymember Gloria is charged with leading a team of Assistant Whips to advance priority legislation. Working alongside the Speaker, Gloria will help identify policy priorities and advance them off the Assembly Floor. Speaker Rendon has appointed Assemblymembers Tasha Boerner Horvath (D-Encinitas) and Jesse Gabriel (D-San Fernando Valley) as Assistant Whips.
Assemblymember Gloria has served in Assembly leadership since his election in 2016. This will mark his second year as Majority Whip.
In addition to the appointment as Majority Whip, Assemblymember Gloria has been appointed to serve on the following committees:
- Business and Professions;
- Housing and Community Development;
- Veterans Affairs; and,
- Water, Parks, and Wildlife.
The legislature reconvenes for the 2019-2020 legislation session on January 7, 2019.
