Assemblymember Todd Gloria Issues Statement on Sexual Harassment Allegations in the State Capitol
SAN DIEGO, CA – California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued the following statement today on the allegations of sexual harassment against Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra:
“I believe the women who stepped forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Assemblymember Raul Bocanegra. They have shown tremendous bravery and I feel he should resign his office immediately.
“The continued allegations of sexual harassment within the Capitol community demand substantive reforms. I support Assembly Speaker Rendon’s strong statements in response to the claims against Mr. Bocanegra and the need to change the Capitol’s culture. I look forward to the Assembly’s Rules Subcommittee on Harassment proposing meaningful changes as soon as possible and I will do everything I can to help implement its recommendations.
“We must make the Capitol free of sexual harassment and abuse and put in place the appropriate safeguards so that those who work for and with the Legislature are protected, victims are heard, and perpetrators are held accountable. Doing so is critical to accomplishing the work of the Legislature and improving the lives of Californians.”
