SACRAMENTO, CA – Following California State Assemblymember Evan Low’s (D-Campbell) announcement that his bill, AB 2943 (related to conversion therapy), would not be moving forward this year, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued this statement:

I am grateful for Assemblymember Evan Low’s willingness and courage to author AB 2943 and take on the task of classifying conversion therapy as a fraudulent business practice in California. His leadership on this bill started critically important conversations in this state – conversations that I believe needed to occur.

“I understand and wholeheartedly support his reasoning for temporarily pausing on AB 2943, and I commend him for his efforts to continue conversations over the next year.

“As a co-author of AB 2943, I was proud to work with Assemblymember Low on this bill and I look forward to continuing this fight alongside him and my colleagues in the LGBT Legislative Caucus in hopes of one day seeing the end of this harmful and scientifically discredited practice in California.”

Assemblymember Todd Gloria is the Majority Whip of the California State Assembly and proudly represents the 78th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, San Diego, and Solana Beach. He is also a member of the California LGBT Legislative Caucus.
