SAN DIEGO, CA – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced its ruling that the Trump Administration improperly rescinded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Following the announcement, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued this statement:

Today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court is a momentous victory for the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers this nation made a promise to eight years ago – a promise that we must keep. It is a ruling that sides with basic human decency over the heartless and racist agenda of the Trump Administration aimed toward immigrants.

“Our Dreamers make up the fabric of America. They contribute to our communities, culture, and economy. In the face of arbitrary and capricious attacks, our Dreamers have never given up. Persistence and grit are quintessential American traits and that’s why their home is here.

“While this is a victory, we must remain clear-eyed in this moment. This is not a long-term solution and there is much more we must do to protect Dreamers. Congress must take up comprehensive immigration reform and pass permanent protections and solutions for DACA recipients. I remain committed to doing whatever I can to further that goal.”
