Assemblymember Gloria Comments on Governor Newsom’s State of the State

SACRAMENTO, CA – Following California Governor Gavin Newsom’s first State of the State address today, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), the Majority Whip of the State Assembly, issued this statement:

“After his first State of the State today, it’s clear our Governor gets it, and is looking to intelligently and comprehensively address the challenges we face as Californians.

“I commend Governor Newsom for standing firm against the White House’s manufactured border crisis. By no means is it a border emergency -- it’s a matter of people exercising their human right to seek asylum in this country. This is a right I intend to continue to support and defend.

“In addition, Governor Newsom laid out a bold vision to combat two actual and legitimate emergencies in California: housing and homelessness. I appreciate his solution-oriented approach to this problem and look forward to putting legislation on his desk to help us reach our ultimate goal: a roof over the head of every Californian at a price they can afford.”
