Gloria: “Protestors’ Blatant Ignoring of Public Health Guidelines Potentially Put Hundreds of People At-Risk”

SAN DIEGO, CA – After seeing visuals and receiving reports on yesterday’s “Freedom Rally” in Pacific Beach, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued the following statement:

“As the State Assemblymember representing Pacific Beach, I am disappointed by the actions exhibited by ‘Freedom Rally’ protestors this past weekend and their disregard for public health.

“While I understand the frustration with the stay at-home orders, the fact remains that positive COVID-19 cases are still increasing in San Diego County and people are dying. There is no immunity to this disease, and the protestors’ blatant ignoring of public health guidelines potentially put hundreds of people at-risk. That’s not okay.

“All of us want to return to normal. However, the longer we protest and needlessly leave our homes, the longer we will stay under these circumstances. The progress we have made is because of San Diegans who have stayed at home, practiced physical distancing, and covered their face in public. We can’t let all of that progress be for nothing.

“We must remember: amid this public health crisis, the actions of a few can impact the many. I strongly urge every San Diegan to follow local, state, and federal public health directives so that we can all move on to some sense of normalcy.”
