Assemblymember Gloria Comments on Assembly’s Passage of AB 392, Police Use-of-Force
Gloria Votes to Support AB 392, Says “It Will Save Lives.”
SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the California State Assembly passed Assembly Bill 392 (AB 392), legislation that changes the use of lethal force standard for law enforcement. Following the Assembly’s passage of the bill, California State Asssemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) released this statement:
“I voted to support AB 392 because I believe it will save lives and make our neighborhoods safer. It is a statement to communities of color that we hear their concerns and are taking action.
“I am grateful to all of the diverse stakeholders who came together to achieve today’s strong, bipartisan vote to forward AB 392 to the Senate. In particular, San Diego’s own Assemblymember Shirley Weber’s leadership is to be commended. Her persistence has created a historic legislative accomplishment that every Californian can be proud of.
“The work does not end with police use of force. We have to do more to address our mental health crisis, this nation’s pervasive gun culture, and provide training to our police officers. I look forward to supporting increased funding for law enforcement training later this year.”
