Assemblymember Gloria Comments on Assembly’s Passage of 2019-2020 State Budget
Gloria Votes to Support 2019-2020 State Budget, Calls it “Bold, Progressive, and Responsible.”
SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the California State Assembly passed the 2019-2020 state budget. Following the budget’s passage, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued this statement:
“This year’s state budget is bold, progressive, and responsible. Not only is it balanced and passed on-time, but it maintains fiscally prudent reserves and makes important investments to support all Californians.
“California’s housing and homelessness crisis continues to be the most pressing problem we face. With this budget, we seek to make real progress by investing $2.4 billion to boost needed housing construction, cut taxes for working families, and help municipalities address homelessness.
“This budget also takes appropriate steps to get us closer to a universal and affordable healthcare system that works for all Californians. Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege – and in this budget we reflect that value by expanding healthcare access regardless of immigration status.
“Additionally, this budget prioritizes educational opportunities for our children from youth through adulthood. With new investments in childcare, we are poised to give thousands of children and families access to childcare and pre-school. Simultaneously, we are providing 15,000 more of our young people the opportunity to attend a UC and CSU.
“This budget sets California on a path toward an incredibly bright future. It is a budget every California should be proud of, and it is a budget I am proud to support.”
