Gloria Blasts House GOP for Approving ‘Tax Reform’ Plan that Takes from America’s Working and Middle Class to Give to the Wealthy

SAN DIEGO, CA – California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) issued the following statement today after House GOP passed its ‘tax reform’ plan:

“The ‘tax reform’ plan by House Republicans throws our nation’s most vulnerable like low-income families, students, senior citizens, and the disabled under the bus in order to give wealthy corporations and the mega-rich a huge tax cut.

“Among the most concerning aspects is that the House plan eliminates crucial funding for affordable housing which California has used to build more than 20,000 homes in the last year. Next year, the State is projected to build approximately 90,000 units using those federal dollars. If the Senate approves this plan as-is, that number could be cut in half.

“It is shameful that the House majority would mask taking from America’s poor and middle-class to give to the wealthy as ‘tax reform’. Their proposal is not reform at all – it’s just bad policy.”

Assemblymember Gloria represents the 78th Assembly District of California, which includes the cities of San Diego, Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, and Solana Beach. He also serves as the Assembly’s Assistant Majority Whip.
